Week 10- Interaction / Puzzles

Optimization

Before I get into this weeks theme of interaction and puzzles, last week I touched on some problems some peers of mine showed me. A few of these were poor frame rate, missing assets and non-functional controls. These problems for reason beyond what I know were only specific to the html build of Prosaic-Ware. Nevertheless much of this weeks efforts have been concentrated on such problems.

Above is a basic mini-game I made for the purpose of testing and receiving feedback, compared to last week a lot of the frame issues have been fixed though more work in this area needs to be done.

Above is the html build playing in a browser, as you can see it works now, the arm follows the player's mouse properly and so does the hand (not show).

The theme of Prosaic-Ware

Over the last few weeks I've been rethinking the 'story' of Prosaic-Ware and I've decided to revamp the concept. In this game you play as an alien hiding among us humans living in a normal suburban home. Your goal is to learn and adapt to blend in as best you can however some human habits may have been lost in translation.

Puzzles

Unfortunately I haven't done as many puzzles as I would have hoped but luckily I have created a system to automatically turn the mini-games on/off whenever the player clicks on the activation object, this should help me blast through the creation of mini-games. Despite this the greatest challenge I have experienced when making puzzles is just thinking of concepts so I've made sure to write down whenever I think of a keeper. Unfortunately a lot of my ideas have been nonsense but here's a few I like.

  • Make a 'face mask'
  • call home
  • make normal human cuisine
  • Experience human fashion

In future updates I will expand of each of these mini-game concepts but for now I'd like to leave you to think how an alien would interpolate these things.
